Why Your Mahjong Solitaire Board Should Be Checked Before You Even See It
Nothing kills a relaxing Mahjong Solitaire session faster than staring at a board you can't finish — not because you misplayed, but because the shuffle itself left no legal moves. Friends at Mahjong Solitaire checks every deal for solvability before it's dealt to you, so the board you open is one you're actually meant to clear.
How the board-checking works
Each Mahjong Solitaire board starts as a shuffle of the real 144-tile American Mahjong set — Bams, Craks, Dots one through nine, the four Winds, three Dragons, and eight Flowers. Before that shuffle ever reaches your screen, it's checked for solvability. That means boards that are unsolvable because of a bad shuffle are filtered out before you start playing.
If you do get stuck mid-game, a hint highlights an available pair for you. It won't walk you through the whole strategy — it just points to one legal move so you can keep going.
The Daily board is the same for everyone
Each day's board is generated from the date itself rather than pulled from a server, so every player who opens Friends at Mahjong Solitaire on a given day sees the exact same layout. There's no streak counter to protect and no penalty if you miss a day.
Where this fits if you want more
If you clear through the free Daily rotation and want a longer arc, the Journey mode adds 100 levels across named locations — Lexington, Palm Beach, Newport, and New York — with the first 10 free to play. The remaining levels unlock with a single one-time purchase, made once in the iPhone app and carried over to the browser version too.
Playing with friends
If you want to share a specific board or compare progress with someone you know, the Friends feature lets you send a private, invite-only board or play the same layout at the same time for comparison — there's no public chat involved.
All of this is free to try right now: Friends at Mahjong Solitaire currently runs with no ads, and every helper — hint, undo, and rescue — is available from your very first board. Open mahjonggsolitaire.app in your browser and start with today's Daily board.
