Currently No Ads, Boards That Won't Leave You Stuck: What to Expect from Mahjong Solitaire

· By Friends at Mahjong

Mahjong Solitaire currently shows no ads and checks every board before it reaches you — no download, no account, no pay-to-win required to start.

If you've ever hit a wall mid-board in a solvable mahjong solitaire game and wondered whether the game itself was ever winnable, here's what Mahjong Solitaire does differently.

No ads, right now

There are currently no ads in Mahjong Solitaire. Right now, that means no banner between rounds and no video before a replay. You start playing in full screen in your browser, with no registration and no download.

Every deal is checked before you see it

Mahjong Solitaire is played with the real 144-tile set used in American Mahjong solitaire — Bams, Craks, and Dots one through nine, four Winds, three Dragons, and eight Flowers — not a simplified match-three layout. You clear the board by matching pairs of free tiles: tiles with nothing on top of them and at least one open side.

Every deal is checked before it reaches you, so a board can't be lost to a bad shuffle. Clearing one is still on you — the check is about the deal being solvable, not about making the moves for you.

Hint that points, not plays

When you can't see a move, Hint highlights a pair you can play. It shows you where to look; it doesn't clear the tiles for you. That's deliberate — the game is meant to help you get better at spotting the real American Mahjong tiles, not to play itself.

One Daily board, no streaks to protect

Every player gets the same Daily board, generated from the date rather than pulled from a server, so nobody's getting a different deal and nobody's keeping score behind the scenes. Miss a day and nothing resets: there's no streak to lose and no penalty waiting for you when you come back.

A Journey you can take at your own pace

The Journey mode runs 100 levels across named locations, and the first 10 are free along with every helper — Hint, Undo, and Rescue — and the full Daily board rotation. If you want the rest of the Journey, it's a one-time purchase rather than a subscription — see the site or the App Store listing for the current price.

Collect a table, not a pile of currency

As you play, you unlock hand-painted tile sets, tables, racks, mats, and rooms — cosmetic, not required to finish a board. There's no energy system, no timers, and nothing you need to buy in order to finish a board.

Play with a friend, privately

You can send a friend the exact board you just played, or take the same deal at the same time and compare afterward. It's invite-only with no public chat — just a private way to share a board.

If you want to learn the four-player game these tiles come from, Mahjong Lexington teaches American Mah Jongg from the first hand onward.
