How the Daily Mahjong Board Works (and Why Missing a Day Doesn't Cost You Anything)

· By Friends at Mahjong

The Daily board in Mahjong Solitaire is the same puzzle for every player on a given day, with no central scoreboard deciding who got the easier deal.

How the Daily board works

Each day's board is the same for everyone who plays that day, which means it doesn't rely on a server picking a layout for you. Everyone playing today gets the exact same tiles in the exact same positions. No player gets an easier board than anyone else.

What happens if you miss a day

Nothing. There is no streak counter to break, no "buy back your streak" offer, and no warning telling you that you're about to lose progress. Come back whenever you come back, and that day's board is waiting the same way it would have been if you'd played every day in between.

Every deal is checked before it reaches you

Like the rest of Mahjong Solitaire, each Daily deal is checked before it reaches you, so the board isn't left to a bad shuffle. You might still get stuck on a hard sequence — that's part of the puzzle — but the board itself was never broken to begin with.

Playing today's board

You don't need to register or download anything to play today's board. It runs full-screen in your browser, with tiles sized for a real phone width instead of a squeezed-down layout. Every helper — hint, undo, rescue — is available on the Daily board the same as anywhere else in the game.

The tiles you're actually learning

The Daily board uses the same real 144-tile American Mahjong set as the rest of the game — Bams, Craks, Dots one through nine, the four Winds, the three Dragons, and the eight Flowers. Any Flower matches any other Flower; everything else matches only its own twin. Playing a board a day is also, almost incidentally, a way to practice recognizing those tiles — useful if you ever want to try the four-player American Mah Jongg game that Mahjong Lexington teaches.
